Theatrical Threads: Stageworthy Uniforms for Delfont Mackintosh Theatres

Tailored Image was the natural choice of uniform supplier for Delfont Mackintosh Theatres in their search for a supplier to help them create the best first impression on their theatre-loving audiences.

A refurbishment of their venues brought with it the desire to refresh the whole customer experience, and an integral part of this was to ensure a professional and classy yet warm and welcoming nature for staff uniforms.

The design brief came from Sir Cameron Mackintosh himself, one of the most influential musical theatre producers of all time. He carefully selected the fabrics and ultimately the chosen designs for each theatre.

The task for Tailored Image was to provide shirts, blouses, waistcoats and aprons for staff, which would be paired with black trousers. A pin stripe shirt & blouse option was decided upon – a modern nod to the popularity of this pattern in the Edwardian era up until the 1930s, when these theatres were first built. These are coupled with the additional of striking single colour, double breasted waistcoats with matching aprons, which together combine to achieve an impressive result.

A Fresh Uniform Look for an Enhanced Customer Experience

The majority of theatres adopt a warm burgundy colour scheme, but in an interesting twist, the Prince of Wales Theatre has opted for a blue version and the Victoria Palace a green colour scheme, achieving a beautifully varying colour scheme across the theatre portfolio. Given the major space limitations and the expense and complexity of managing 8 venues across Central London, the company has benefitted greatly from Tailored Image’s award-winning online ordering portal, which allows individual wearers to order their own garments from a pre-agreed wardrobe allowance, and have their garments delivered directly to their home addresses.

Delfont Mackintosh Theatres is one of the largest London theatre owners, with a portfolio of eight theatres, the largest of which has a capacity of over 1700 people. The portfolio includes the recently redeveloped Victoria Palace Theatre, the resplendently renovated Prince of Wales and Prince Edward, both built in the 1930s, and the NovelloGielgudNoël CowardWyndham’s and Sondheim, and popular shows in these venues include Les Misérables, Hamilton, MAMMA MIA!, and The Book of Mormon.

The company’s goal is to offer audiences and artists alike an unparalleled theatrical experience and, with the help of refurbishment of their venues and a fresh approach to staff uniforms, they have created an unforgettable encounter for their cherished customers.

A Standout Wardrobe for Butlers Across the Delfont Makintosh Theatre Network

In a standout feature, the butler uniform enjoys a unique look from other theatre staff to denote the premium service provided by these staff members. A butler service is a personal service provided on a one to one basis for premium seats as as such demands a more luxurious uniform.

With a long jacket and matching waistcoat in a chosen tartan which was undoubtedly a nod to Sir Cameron Makintosh’s Scottish lineage, this is a uniform which is sure to strike a dramatic first impression and leave customers in no doubt they are receiving the best of service.
