easyJet: Taking off to a New Era

With garments to cater for all seasons, and a design to propel the airline into a new era, easyJet’s new wardrobe is a source of great pride for Tailored Image. This stylish collection has been meticulously designed and crafted to achieve an aesthetic and professional appearance together with comfort and durability to provide the perfect work wardrobe for easyJet’s cabin and flight deck crews across the UK and Europe.

Since it first launched into our skies 30 years ago, easyJet has become a major player in the aviation industry in the UK and across Europe. As part of its 30th birthday celebrations, it unveiled its new uniform suite, proudly designed, manufactured and delivered by Tailored Image. This new wardrobe is a signal of the company’s move into a new era and at Tailored Image, we’re proud to be a part of this journey.

easyJet: Taking off to a New Era

The Brief

Discussions surrounding the new uniform began back in March 2023 with a view to creating a new, bespoke uniform suite that would ensure maximum comfort and ease for cabin crew and pilots – one which would prove suitably versatile for use in a range of hot and cold climates across easyJet’s UK & European bases. The brief was to create a uniform solution that would be stylish, elegant, timeless and would give a nod to easyJet’s orange.

Since these early discussions, a hugely collaborative project has been undertaken.  This began with gaining feedback from Brand and Customer ambassadors surrounding the existing uniform, garnering insightful information on the pros and cons from both a wearer and customer perspective. The Innovation & Technical Team at Tailored Image then set about the lengthy process of designing, gaining feedback and refining each separate garment until a solution was arrived at that met or exceeded the expectations of the easyJet . This process involved a systematic series of wearer trials, each aimed at determining exactly how materials would perform on duty and the comfort and satisfaction levels of easyJet’s pilots and crew.

The Brief

The Wardrobe

The resulting wardrobe comprises 62 garments in total – with 30 separate garments and accessories on offer to flight deck crew and 30 for cabin crew.

In a departure from previous uniform iterations, the new generation of easyJet flight deck crew now wear a black suit as opposed to grey. This decision was taken as a result of feedback from pilots of their desire to be easily differentiated from cabin crew staff. The cotton element of the trousers has been replaced by wool to help combat the cold conditions of the flight deck, and for the same reason a heavier jacket is now worn – with wool replacing the previous viscose element. In addition, a jumper option has been added to give the option of an additional layer of warmth and achieve enhanced comfort. The flight deck wardrobe is complete with high vis vest, warm winter overcoat, belt, cravat and ties and epaulettes to denote their seniority.

Individuality Unlocked

Cabin crew enjoy further opportunity to individualise their uniforms with a wider choice of garments. Male fit garments come in a choice of Slim and Classic fits, with long and short sleeve shirts also offering this choice of fits. 4-way stetch has been added to suiting and with stretch also added to shirting to allow generous freedom of movement for the wearers in the demanding environment. Shirting now has up to 40% more cotton for a luxury feel and increased breathability.

These core garments can be combined with waistcoat, jumper and/or jacket options to complete the look. For those seeking a female fit, the choice of a trousers or skirt and blouse combination exists as well as the striking dress option which was subject to many design tweaks in order to arrive at this design. These garments can be layered with waistcoat, cardigan and jacket choices to achieve an individual look. Seniority is denoted with a separate design on scarves, ties and cravats for cabin managers as well as the addition of a pocket square.

A Statement Piece

Winter wardrobes and colder climates call for additional layers, which is where the overcoat has proved to be a hugely popular item. Taking design inspiration from some leading fashion brands, this wool blend coat is a fashion statement and has become the most spoken about garment in the collection. This can be worn with the addition of a winter scarf or pashmina. Tailored Image also provide bag options manufactured from PU leather for durability & a professional look.

In a new departure, easyJet has given staff the freedom to select either a male or female wardrobe depending on their own preference. This has achieved a truly inclusive uniform and has allowed the type of individualism Tailored Image is so passionate about achieving through clothing.
